I am getting really happily surprised with the museums in Istanbul. Over the past holiday, we went to a new one that opened in 2007, Santral Istanbul. It is an old power plant, one that supplied Istanbul with its electricity for a long time, that has been converted into an exhibit itself and a technology museum, and was added a nice art gallery. The giant plant is open for looking at the old machinery, and most impressive, the control room. The control room has everything that you dream of from an old James Bond movie; The controls, the displays and the emergency cabinet. The day we visited, morning sun was getting in the building through its large windows with frosty glasses, covering everything with a soft light.
