MCA's rebranding and its new website made me smile.
They have unveiled their new design by Mevis & Van Deursen. It is so beautiful that I wanted to take in every detail that they planned. Here are the four aspects that I enjoyed the most:
The interchangeable logo: Now that the brands do not limit them to one logo (or its different size and color versions), the four dynamic logos that MCA has chosen are both very different than each other and also very cohesively MCA.
The new typeface: The design by Karl Nawrot is crisp and tactical.
The grid system: The grid system, which MCA says echoes the grid system of Chicago and MCA itself is prominently used on the website. It especially looks good on the ticket sale pages of MCA stage.
The way they used the web page as a white canvas: Unlike most current design, the information - which is carefully curated and strategically placed - is floating on the page. I find this feature to be the most-recreating the MCA experience online. The openness, the many interesting directions that you can go.
They moved on to create a most user friendly and still very MCA looking mobile site for the smart phones. The bottom navigation bar and its icons are state of the art.
I have nothing to complain. Design. Gorgeous. Usability. Perfect.
